His Excellency the Governor of West Bengal - Shri Gopal Krishna Gandhi inaugurated the CD of 8 Brahmosangeet penned by Rammohun, sung by various artists at a function at the Museum on 14th September 2009.
Speaking at the occassion- the Governor remarked that this CD has a civilizational value and that the Raja was a colossus in his intellect. He also highlighted the liguistic prowess of Rammohun and how he mastered the Arabic script and picked up the other languages with ease - a feat which we can try emulating. He praised the work that Rammohun had done for the enlightenment of women and he mentioned that the Raja would have been proud to see that India has come a vast way from the dark ages, though there are pockets of vices which still remain to be ironed out. He also touched upon the recent bill that has been passed to prevent domestic violence and it has to be seen how this can be better impelemented.
He also mentioned of the ties that this city has with Bristol and how the funds were arranged for the restoration of the Raja's tomb at Arnos Vale in Bristol.
The Governor then visited the museum galleries and expressed a keen interest in the displayed artifacts.
Dr. Sovon Sundar Som gave the welcome note and the Chairman of the Museum Committe - Lakshmi Narayan Ray apprised the Governor of the recent activities of the museum. Pramita Mallick performed the opening song while Dr. Madhushree Ghosh, Chairperson - Governing body of Rammohun College delivered the welcome prayer. The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Dipti Basu - Secretary Musuem committee.
